A number of major outlets reported that Thomas Partey had converted to Islam and changed his name to Yakubu, but the Arsenal man was merely having a laugh.

Led by the Daily Mail, a number of outlets declared this week that, after marrying a Muslim, Thomas Partey had converted from Christianity and would take the name ‘Yakubu’ although he would continue to be known as Thomas Partey in the world of football.

The Arsenal man, however, was merely having a laugh and has not changed his name at all.

Originally, Partey said, “I have a girl I love, I know my side chicks will leave me but it’s no problem. I grew up with Muslims so at the end of the day, it’s the same thing. I’m already married and my Muslim name is Yakubu.”

Later, on Twitter, Partey then said, “Eei chale I was enjoying it but now am back to Thomas again”

It appears he never changed his name at all, although, at the time of writing, few outlets have corrected their original articles or issued an update.
