Real Madrid aren’t interested in signing Serge Gnabry this summer despite all the speculation, according to a report from Spain.

Marca report that Real Madrid haven’t made any attempt to sign Serge Gnabry this summer, and they haven’t even shown an interest in signing the Bayern Munich man.

Real Madrid believe they have Gnabry’s position covered with Rodrygo and Marco Asensio. Their door is closed to a potential transfer.

This is certainly an interesting development, as Real Madrid were the club most strongly linked with a move for Gnabry. On the surface of it, Real’s absence from the race seemingly leaves the door open for another club to step in.

But this update comes hot on the heels of reports that Gnabry doesn’t actually want a transfer this summer at all.

Sport1’s Kerry Hau reports that whilst Gnabry has rejected the chance to extend his contract with Bayern, he still wants to stay with the club.

The Bundesliga club were reportedly offering Gnabry €10m net per season – so that’s €19m before tax, or £311k-a-week.

From Gnabry’s perspective, he’s hoping that going into the final year of his contract without a definitive agreement will be beneficial to him.

The winger could draw some eyeballs at the World Cup before opening pre-contract talks with any interested clubs from January onwards.

For Bayern, that’s the worst-case scenario. They’d get another year of football out of Gnabry, but they’d then lose him on a free transfer.

BILD report that on top of Gnabry’s wages, Bayern Munich’s asking price for Gnabry would be €40m (£34m) this summer.

Arsenal have been linked with a move, but there’s really nothing concrete in the English media, and £115m over the course of the deal is a major investment.

In 45 appearances for Bayern in 2021/22, Gnabry has reached 17 goals and eight assists, most recently scoring in the game that won them their 10th consecutive Bundesliga title.

For the German national team, where he plays centrally more regularly, Gnabry has 20 goals in 31 appearances.
