Arsenal are still planning to sign Youri Tielemans despite agreeing a deal to bring in Fabio Vieira from FC Porto, according to reports.

FC Porto confirmed on Friday morning that they’ve agreed a deal with Arsenal for the transfer of Fabio Vieira, subject to various finalisations such as a medical.
The news was well-received by Arsenal fans, but left them wondering whether that meant a widely-rumoured deal for Youri Tielemans was off.
Fabrizio Romano reports that’s not the case, claiming that whilst Arsenal are securing a move for Vieira, they’re still also working on a deal for Youri Tielemans as a top priority for their midfield.
Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports echoes this sentiment, writing that the Vieira deal doesn’t impact Arsenal’s pursuit of Tielemans. The midfielder remains a priority and the Gunners are confident of agreeing a price with Leicester City.
Jacobs previously claimed that Arsenal were on course to sign Tielemans before the end of June, so we could see some movement soon.
Arsenal certainly needed midfield reinforcements this summer, and Tielemans and Vieira would likely play different roles in the team.
Whilst Vieira is a more advanced midfielder who could even end up on the wings, Tielemans is more likely to play slightly deeper, no further forward than as an 8.
We’ll have to wait and see where the players end up if and when the deals are confirmed and pre-season gets underway.

The Telegraph wrote that Arteta is pushing Arsenal to make an opening £25m bid for Tielemans. The club’s head of UK scouting has consistently been watching the midfielder throughout the current campaign.
But Percy added that Leicester could demand a fee of over £30m, despite Tielemans’ deal running down in 2023.
Tielemans scored seven goals and provided five assists in 50 games for Leicester City in all competitions this season, with 10 of those goal contributions coming in his 32 Premier League games.
