TEAMtalk report that Arsenal will allow academy defender Omar Rekik to leave on loan this summer.

The centre-back is drawing interest from Germany and the Netherlands, and the Gunners believe it’s the right time for him to make the step into senior football.

Arsenal already tried to loan Rekik out once, back in January, but the move fell through late on.

Rekik didn’t play as much football for the Arsenal u23s as he would have wanted this season, due to his AFCON absence with Tunisia in January and his subsequent injury keeping him out until April.

But when available, the 20-year-old continued to impress, particularly in possession. He’s also physically built for senior football, so he shouldn’t struggle to impose himself.

Rekik’s work on the ball seemingly makes him a good fit for an eventual step up to the first team. Before that happens, he needs to test himself defensively against senior pros on a regular basis.

The youngster has already had occasional senior opportunities, from his pre-season chance with Arsenal to his international appearances for Tunisia. He just needs more consistency with those chances next season.

Following Reiss Nelson’s successful loan to the Netherlands and Konstantinos Mavropanos’ loans to Germany, either would appear to be a good option if there’s interest in Rekik.
