Arsenal have reportedly been monitoring Barcelona goalkeeper Neto for over a year now, but they’re yet to submit an offer.

Goal in Brazil report that Barcelona’s Neto is looking for a new team, and the Catalan club are willing to release him for any offer this summer.

The same outlet claims Arsenal are monitoring the player, and have been since last year. But the Gunners are yet to formalise a proposal for a transfer.

Arsenal have been linked with Neto for a year and a half now, after reports suggested he was an option as a backup to Bernd Leno in the 2020/21 season.

At the time, Arsenal wanted a loan, and Barcelona would only accept a sale. They were hoping to bring in €21m for the Brazilian, and the Gunners unsurprisingly opted for Mat Ryan on loan instead.

The English media continued to link Neto with Arsenal last summer, particularly during the period when Aaron Ramsdale’s transfer appeared to be falling apart.

After that deal for Ramsdale eventually went through, the Neto reports died down.

But now the links are back, given Leno may well be on the move.

Arsenal already look to be replacing the German goalkeeper with Matt Turner, but Neto would be another option for a goalkeeper with more experience – particularly in top European leagues.

As for why Neto wants to leave Barcelona, he’s only made four appearances this season, after making 12 in the 2020/21 campaign.

The 32-year-old has had a difficult time getting onto the pitch, and he wants to change that with a transfer.
