Fiorentina owner Rocco B. Commisso is disappointed with how Dusan Vlahovic dealt with his Juventus transfer in January.

As we all know by now, Dusan Vlahovic had the choice of various clubs in January, but Arsenal and Juventus were the two leading contenders for his signature.

In the end, Vlahovic chose Juventus, where he’s had a mixed start so far. He’s scored nine goals in 21 appearances, while Juventus were eliminated in the Champions League last-16 and lost the Italian cup final.

Fiorentina managed to qualify for European football for the first time in six years with a win over Juventus on the final day, but there’s clearly still some bitterness between Vlahovic’s camp and his former club.

Club owner Rocco B. Commisso spoke to the media this week, claiming Vlahovic could have ruined them and he would have been better off staying with Fiorentina.

“I told [the Fiorentina directors] to find another attacker and they bought Piatek and then Cabral,” Commisso said (via Football-Italia and GIFN).

“In the meantime, the lad who could have ruined us (Vlahovic), who told us he would sign then blocked the signing of a centre-forward in August.

“I don’t know how many months they (Vlahovic’s camp) had been speaking to Juventus for, but a week later, after he didn’t want Arsenal, Real [Madrid], and Atletico, Juventus came forward and we struck a deal.

“The situation went like this: but if they signed a contract with us, he would have done better than how he is doing at Juventus.”

There’s certainly a sense that Juventus’ style of play hasn’t suited Vlahovic so far. He’s had to grind out his own chances in a team that hasn’t made many for him.

Vlahovic’s total of nine goals in 21 games this season at Juventus is very much overshadowed by the 20 in 24 games he’d reached with Fiorentina before leaving.

Time will tell if he made the correct decision. Juventus remain one of the top clubs in Italy, and the striker could certainly find success with them over the next four years of his contract.

It’s just not a great look for his representatives that they’ve fallen out with Fiorentina so badly and seemingly sent him to a club that doesn’t actually suit his game.
