Mohamed Elneny is extending his contract with Arsenal, after being spotted with the club photographer and a pen and paper on Sunday.

Sam Dean of The Telegraph reported on Sunday that Mohamed Elneny has signed a one-year contract extension with Arsenal with the option for a further year on top of that. Fabrizio Romano confirmed the same update.

Their tweets followed pictures from Football.London journalist Kaya Kaynak showing Mohamed Elneny in the Arsenal press room posing for pictures with the club photographer and holding a pen with a piece of paper.

The pictures aren’t exactly conclusive. As much as anything else, this isn’t the room Arsenal generally do their contract signing photos in anyway.

But there has to be some explanation for why Elneny was the only player in the room with the club photographer, and it could suggest they were preparing for or planning his contract photoshoot.

Regardless of the photos, Dean and Romano generally have a good record on Arsenal news, so it’s fair to assume a new deal is incoming.

David Ornstein reported for The Athletic earlier this month that whilst Arsenal were yet to present fresh terms to Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah, they had started to negotiate with Elneny.

The Gunners opened talks with the Egypt international over an extension, and they were hopeful an agreement could be found.

The 29-year-old himself recently told the media: “If Arsenal say: ‘We want you’, I don’t think about leaving. It’s my family for six years. I love this club.

“The contract and stuff, I’m just waiting for the club to decide what they want.”

It looks like that’s happened now.
