Ben White was a surprise absentee when Arsenal’s team to face West Ham United was announced on Sunday, so what is up with the England defender?

Arsenal fans were delighted to see Takehiro Tomiyasu return to the starting lineup for Arsenal’s game against West Ham, but where was no Ben White, with Rob Holding taking his place.

The defender is out with a tight hamstring that he picked up against Manchester United and, with Arsenal not playing for another week, it’s a good chance to rest him and make sure he’s available for the run-in, especially with Spurs on the horizon after Leeds United next weekend.

After Arsenal’s win over West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday, Mikel Arteta told reporters that White will be assessed over the next few days.
