Hector Bellerin looks set to play for Catalonia against Omari Hutchinson and Jamaica, following a call-up this week.
Hector Bellerin and Omari Hutchinson are both set to make unexpected appearances in a friendly match between Catalonia and Jamaica on Wednesday.
Bellerin has previously played international football for Spain, though he’s only featured in friendly matches in the past.
Catalonia isn’t allowed to feature in official FIFA or UEFA competitions, so the usual restrictions don’t apply to their matches. Their players are often also Spanish internationals.
As a result, Bellerin joins other well-known names like Brighton’s Marc Cucurella, RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo, Barcelona’s Riqui Puig, and Southampton’s Oriol Romeu in receiving a call-up for this week’s friendly.
On the other side, Arsenal youngster Omari Hutchinson could be set to start.
On Tuesday, the Jamaica Football Federation confirmed their 20-man squad, and Hutchinson was named on the list for the first time.
Hutchinson had previously represented England at youth level, making the step up to the u19s in November. But it looks like he could be set for a switch of international allegiance.
Hutchinson has had a strong first season with the Arsenal u23s. The winger scored 10 goals and assisted seven in all competitions this campaign.
A very skilful and agile player who excels on the right wing, Hutchinson can easily cut in onto his stronger left foot or go down the line and cross with his more than capable right.
As for Bellerin, he’s spent the season on loan with Real Betis, and they’re hoping to keep him.
