Arsenal are interested in signing Federico Dimarco as backup to Kieran Tierney, but Inter Milan’s price tag is putting them off, according to a report.

The S*n report that Arsenal are looking at Inter Milan left-back Federico Dimarco as cover for Kieran Tierney, but Inter Milan are asking for £20m for the defender. That is reportedly beyond the Gunners’ budget for a backup.

Dimarco would probably consider a move if Arsenal could agree a compromise with Inter. He’s made 42 appearances for the Serie A side this season, but only 17 of them were starts in all competitions.

The 24-year-old might fancy himself to win a starting spot at a new club, rather than staying where he seems to be a backup.

It’s worth mentioning that Dimarco hasn’t actually spent much time playing at left-back this season. Inter Milan use a three-at-the-back system, so the defender has either been used at centre-back or at left-midfield.

But that’s not a bad thing for Arsenal, who would surely welcome the addition of a left-footed player capable of acting as cover or competition for both Tierney and Gabriel Magalhaes.

Just recently, David Ornstein reported that Arsenal tried to sign Nico Schlotterbeck in January, and the Gunners are still in the market for a left-sided central defender if the opportunity arises.

Dimarco could fill that role and ease Mikel Arteta’s reliance on Tierney, but it seems Inter would need to lower their demands.
