Arsenal could be set to try and sign another South American 19-year-old, with links to Racing Club’s Carlos Alcaraz this week.
Arsenal appear to be closing in on the signing of Sao Paulo’s 19-year-old winger Marquinhos, with reports suggesting the deal is almost done.
But Marquinhos may not be the only South American teenager making the switch to North London this summer.
Marca report that Arsenal are among a list of clubs with an interest in Carlos Alcaraz, joining Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Juventus, Spurs, Inter Milan, and AC Milan in the race.
That’s a long list of potential suitors, all of whom have reportedly sent enquiries or scouts to Racing Club. There are others like Wolves and PSV supposedly interested as well, to a lesser degree.
Alcaraz has a contract until 2026 and a release clause of $25m (£20m), and Racing want at least £16m, according to the report.
Unlike Marquinhos, Alcaraz is a midfielder. The 19-year-old has already played almost 60 times for his club’s senior side, scoring eight goals and assisting six.
Arsenal will be targeting a more experienced midfielder this summer to upgrade the starting lineup, but they could also use some midfield depth. They may view Alcaraz as one for the future in the position.
