Arsenal youth goalkeeper Remy Mitchell hasn’t been offered a professional contract with the club, according to a report.

Football.London report that the majority of second-year scholars at Arsenal have been offered new contracts at this stage, with many reaching agreements whilst others continue to negotiate. But Remy Mitchell is one of those who hasn’t been offered a professional deal.

18-year-old Mitchell has had a busy-enough season, making 17 u18 Premier League appearances as well as featuring in the FA Youth Cup and making the bench for the u23s in the EFL Trophy and the Premier League 2.

Yet it seems Arsenal have made the decision not to offer him a new deal.

That could still change before the summer, and it wouldn’t be the first time an Arsenal youth player has managed to play their way into a new contract when all hope of an offer seemed lost.

As it stands, Mitchell will be free to join a new club when the season ends.

The Arsenal u18s have had some trouble at the back this campaign, limiting Mitchell to four clean sheets in his 18 games. But he’s only one part of the defensive unit, so his teammates share the blame for that situation.

In the five u18 league games Mitchell missed, they didn’t keep any clean sheets, conceding at least twice in all five matches. He made some good saves when he was playing, it wasn’t all bad by any means.

All the same, Arsenal seem to have made their decision now. It’s possible we may see Mitchell go out on trial before the end of the campaign if he wants to look for a new club for next season, as youth players often do.
