Arsenal loanee Hector Bellerin had his first chance to win silverware with his boyhood club this weekend, facing off against Valencia in the Copa del Rey final.

Bellerin was named in the Real Betis starting lineup, and he quickly rewarded that decision from Manuel Pellegrini by providing an assist in the 11th minute.

Racing down the right-hand side, Bellerin lifted a cross into the area for Borja Iglesias to head home. You can watch the assist at 0:25 in the linked video or below.

Valencia didn’t take long to equalise, drawing level before the half-hour mark, and another 60 minutes of normal time and 30 minutes of extra time couldn’t separate the two sides.

In a high-quality penalty shootout, another former Arsenal academy player – Yunus Musah of Valencia – was the only unfortunate player to miss his spot-kick.

But a night of disappointment for young Musah meant celebration for Bellerin, as the loanee joined his Betis teammates in lifting the trophy.

This is likely to be the highlight of Bellerin’s loan spell at Betis, but he still has something to play for in the final five games of his loan.

The Spanish side are four points off the top-four and the Champions League qualification places. Their Copa del Rey win secures them Europa League football at a minimum, but the Champions League dream isn’t dead yet.
