It is being reported that Barcelona will look to get rid of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang due to his high wages, but that always seemed like it was the plan.

When Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signed for Barcelona, most were surprised to learn that they had given him an three-year deal.

He will, after all, be 33 at the end of this season.

The deal made more sense when it was revealed that there is a break clause in his contract that allows them call it quits after 18-months.

Aubameyang took a well-publicised, and hefty paycut to get out of Arsenal but part of his Barcelona deal will see his wages increase by four-and-a-half times next season to around £266kpw.

Barcelona, it seems, do not want to pay that much money to a man heading towards the end of his career and are reportedly making plans to shift him on.

Could Barcelona sell Aubameyang this summer?

According to a report from Gabon, Barcelona have Aubameyang on a 25-man list of players to get rid of this summer if they can find buyers, helping him out the door after he took a paycut and immediately started banging in the goals.

Barcelona’s list: Aubameyang, Ter Stegen, Neto, Ousmane Dembélé, Sergiño Dest, Óscar Mingueza, Clément Lenglet, Samuel Umtiti, Riqui Puig, Martin Braithwaite, Gerard Piqué, Dani Alves, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, Sergi Roberto, Memphis Depay, Luuk de Jong, Adama Traoré, Frenkie De Jong and six players on loan: Iñaki Peña, Alex Collado, Philippe Coutinho, Miralem Pjanic, Rey Manaj, Francisco Trincao.

That would leave just six players remaining from the current squad – Eric García, Ronald Araújo, Pedri, Pablo Gavi, Nico González and Ferrán Torres.

That seems a bit harsh on Auba and, given how many he is scoring for them, I imagine they won’t be in that much of a hurry to sell him.

That being said, financially, things are difficult for Barcelona, so anything is possible.
