The Arsenal u18s’ form forwards continued their strong recent progress with a variety of goalscorers in a 4-2 win over Southampton on Saturday.

The Arsenal u18s have a few attacking players in good form at the moment, and almost all of them were involved in the goals as they overcame Southampton 4-2 this weekend.

It took just two minutes for Mathaeus Roberts to open the scoring, assisted by Billy Vigar. Roberts had scored or assisted three goals in his last three starts going into the Southampton game, before playing for the Wales u18s over the international break.

Ethan Nwaneri then doubled the lead in the 7th minute, the 15-year-old’s fourth goal contribution in four games for the Arsenal u18s.

Despite the fast start, Arsenal had to fight for the eventual victory. Southampton’s Jimmy Jay Morgan pulled a goal back in the 27th minute, before scoring an equaliser in the 72nd minute.

Just when it looked as if Arsenal might have let the victory slip through their fingers, Vigar helped them retake the lead, assisted by Mauro Bandeira.

Vigar is another player in good form, with his goal and assist on Saturday putting him on five goal contributions in his last five games. After so long out of the team with injury in the first half of the campaign, it’s good to see him returning to form now.

Charles Sagoe Jr secured the victory with an 82nd-minute goal, assisted by the earlier goalscorer Roberts. Sagoe Jr has now scored six goals in the last 20 minutes of games this season.

Arsenal remain seventh in the u18 Premier League South. Rather bizarrely, they’re closer to West Ham in first (11 points) than Brighton in eighth (15 points).
