CBS Sports report that whilst the likes of Jonathan David, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Alexander Isak are all on Arsenal’s summer transfer shortlist, the Gunners have also been extensively scouting Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.

Arsenal are searching for a young but experienced and consistent goalscorer, which isn’t necessarily going to be an easy task this summer. Qualifying for the Champions League will certainly help.

Mikel Arteta’s side were quite regularly linked with Lautaro Martinez last summer, but it never seemed hugely realistic given Arsenal’s total spend across that window.

It was clearly preferable to invest over £100m on six good players than £60-80m on Martinez alone, considering where the Gunners were at the time. It’s a different story this time around, with the team desperate for real quality at centre-forward.

But the 24-year-old has since signed a new contract with Inter Milan, so he’s not going to be easy to pry away.

You could perhaps say the same about Osimhen. Reports suggest Napoli would want at least the £60m they signed the striker for, and they have a reputation for driving a hard bargain when it comes to key sales, as we know from the fact they’ve held onto Kalidou Koulibaly for so long.

Martinez has scored 16 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions this season, whilst Osimhen has 15 in 25.
