Arsenal are keen on signing 23-year-old Edon Zhegrova from Lille, according to reports, despite the winger only moving to France in January.

According to the print edition of The Sunday Mirror (via The Boot Room), Arsenal could spend as much as £11m to bring in Edon Zhegrova this summer. They’re keen on bringing the winger in despite his very recent move to Lille.

Zhegrova joined Lille in mid-January, and he’s only made eight appearances (one start) for his new club so far.

The Kosovo international has made good use of his limited minutes, scoring twice and assisting once in just 201 minutes of action. But the sample size is too small to say whether he could keep that up if and when he gets further opportunities.

Before Lille, Zhegrova had started the season with FC Basel, for whom he directly contributed to nine goals in 794 minutes before leaving. That’s slightly better than a goal or assist per 90 minutes.

The reason the winger didn’t play more in the first half of the campaign was a few setbacks with injury and illness. He’s yet to cross the 1,000-minute mark in club football this season.

Once again, it’s interesting to see Arsenal linked with a left-footed right-winger. This seems to happen a lot, which is somewhat confusing when that’s a position the team have locked down by Bukayo Saka.

Nicolas Pepe has found it hard enough getting into the team, so he’d definitely need to leave before a third right-winger would have any chance at minutes.

It feels like Arsenal probably have other priorities right now, but Zhegrova is certainly making the most of his limited opportunities in 2021/22.
