Earlier this week, we covered the news of Brooke Norton-Cuffy’s red card with Lincoln City, with the Arsenal loanee sent off following a clash with AFC Wimbledon left-back Lee Brown.

The sending-off certainly seemed harsh, with Brown trying to trip Norton-Cuffy, who pushed Brown in response, before the pair briefly put their heads together.

In normal circumstances, you’d expect a yellow for both parties and nothing more. But whilst Brown received a yellow, Norton-Cuffy received a red.

The referee claimed that Norton-Cuffy had headbutted Brown, hence the sending-off. Yet video evidence of the incident revealed no headbutt.

Fortunately, the footballing authorities recognised their error after Lincoln City provided them with the evidence, and they rescinded the red card.

Instead of serving a three-game ban, Norton-Cuffy was able to start and complete 90 minutes for Lincoln on Tuesday night.

David Ornstein reports that Arsenal have offered Norton-Cuffy a new long-term contract, extending his stay with the club beyond his current deal to 2023.

Norton-Cuffy is currently on his first professional deal, which carries with it a limit on contract length. But he’s now 18 and eligible for a longer-term extension.

Ornstein adds that Norton-Cuffy has caught the eye of Premier League suitors and other clubs in major European divisions, but he’s expected to accept the Arsenal offer.
