Finally returning to competitive match action, let’s take a look at our Arsenal predicted lineup to face Wolves on Thursday.
Arsenal’s fixture list is a bit empty at the moment, with no games since January 23rd, and only one fixture planned before February 18th.
That one game is a trip away to high-flying Wolves, who sit just two points behind Arsenal and boast the second-best defensive record in the entire league. A win for the hosts would see them leapfrog Mikel Arteta’s side.
Arsenal, meanwhile, will be looking to climb the table and keep pushing for the European qualification places.
Aside from a couple of injury concerns, Arteta really has nothing to prioritise other than winning this game. He just has to pick the best side available to him. Here’s our predicted Arsenal lineup for the Wolves clash.
Goalkeeper
Despite all the rumours, Bernd Leno remains at Arsenal following the closure of the January transfer window. All the same, it will surely be Aaron Ramsdale in goal on Thursday.
Leno’s spell looks to be coming to an end this summer, with Matt Turner on the way in to replace him. With that in mind, Arteta is likely to stick with his long-term option (Ramsdale) for as long as he remains in form.
Defence
We don’t have much news on Takehiro Tomiyasu, who had to pull out of international duty with Japan over the winter break due to injury.
Unfortunately, the signs aren’t good for an immediate return, as Tomiyasu still hasn’t featured in any training photos at the time of writing. Instead, it’s likely Cedric Soares will be starting the match following his own return from injury.
Kieran Tierney, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Ben White should all be available to complete the back four.
Midfield
Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey both return after serving their red-card suspensions, and they’ll likely start together with Albert Sambi Lokonga as a backup.
Martin Odegaard will probably take the number 10 spot ahead of them, with Emile Smith Rowe still yet to complete a full 90 since his return from injury.
Forwards
The front three pretty much picks itself, with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Alexandre Lacazette almost nailed-on to start.
Nicolas Pepe performed well at AFCON and will be pushing to get into the side ahead of Saka, but the England international is a hard man to displace.
On the other side, Smith Rowe could potentially start ahead of Martinelli, but the consecutive Arsenal Player of the Month winner is probably slightly ahead right now.
