Lucas Torreira is going through a rare blip in his encouraging Fiorentina campaign, picking up a red card against Lazio on Saturday.

Lucas Torreira has proven a popular figure at Fiorentina so far this season, and that was no more evident than when he showed off his Player of the Month award last week.
On top of his positive defensive performances in midfield, Torreira had even added something going forward in recent games, scoring twice and assisting once in a run of five matches.
But as Fiorentina began their post-Dusan Vlahovic era at home to Lazio on Saturday, neither the team nor Torreira covered themselves in glory.
Fiorentina fell apart in the second half, conceding three goals including an own goal to throw away any chance at a result.
Torreira’s frustration showed as he remonstrated with the referee following a foul, and his overenthusiastic complaints earned him a second yellow card and a sending-off. You can watch the moment here from 5:16.

Though the Lazio game was done and dusted anyway, the disappointment now is that Torreira will have to serve a suspension for such an unnecessary red card.
It shouldn’t change Fiorentina’s long-term stance on the Arsenal man, with the Serie A club widely expected to take up their option to buy Torreira at the end of the season. But it’s certainly a low point in the 25-year-old’s spell at the club.
