Jose Mourinho is not giving up on the signing of Granit Xhaka, who remains his key target to improve the midfield at AS Roma.

Corriere Della Sera (via Sport Witness) report that Jose Mourinho and AS Roma’s previous failed attempts to sign Granit Xhaka haven’t put them off the transfer, and Mourinho continues to target Xhaka as the man to build next year’s team around.

Mourinho believes Roma lack a midfielder in Xhaka’s mould, and he thinks it’s worth a third attempt to bring the Arsenal man in.

Football.London previously reported that Roma are expected to make a fresh attempt to sign Xhaka in the summer transfer window, and the player is open to a move if Arsenal can come to an agreement.

At this stage, however, Roma and Xhaka haven’t held fresh talks over a potential deal.

On Tuesday, Chris Wheatley repeated on Twitter that Roma would make a move in the summer.

Towards the end of the January transfer window, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Xhaka wouldn’t leave Arsenal before deadline day, but added that Mourinho remains a big fan of the Arsenal man.

A move in the summer doesn’t seem impossible, with Arteta seemingly looking at a revamp in the position.

Central midfield is one of the key areas Arsenal are planning to look at for improvements, and a major new signing could well displace Xhaka in the starting lineup.

But if Roma want Xhaka, they would have to bid more than they did last summer.
