AS Trencin today announced the signing of Dejan Iliev, who was a free agent after his Arsenal contract was mutually terminated in January.

Iliev has signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with his new club.

Goal previously reported that Iliev returned to Macedonia following the mutual termination of his contract with Arsenal, and the offers were starting to arrive from interested clubs.

As Iliev was a free agent, he wasn’t under the usual pressure of transfer deadlines. He wanted to take his time over a decision, finding a club where he could have some stability. He’ll hope he’s now found that club.

Iliev spent the first half of the season on loan with SKF Sered, his second spell with them, keeping four clean sheets in 10 appearances.

The 26-year-old then picked up an injury, leaving him out of action for a while. After that, he never found his way back into the team, and he was recalled by Arsenal.

All the same, Iliev’s performances over the two spells with Sered clearly caught the eye elsewhere in the league, given fellow Slovakian side Trencin are the ones picking him up.

We wish him all the best with his new adventure.
