Football.London report that AS Roma are expected to make a fresh attempt to sign Granit Xhaka in the summer transfer window, and the player is open to a move if Arsenal can come to an agreement.

Jose Mourinho is a big fan of Xhaka as a signing to add mental toughness to his side.

At this stage, however, Roma and Xhaka haven’t held fresh talks over a potential deal.

Towards the end of the January transfer window, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Xhaka wouldn’t leave Arsenal before deadline day, but added that Mourinho remains a big fan of the Arsenal man.

On the other hand, a move in the summer doesn’t seem impossible, with Arteta seemingly looking at a revamp in the position.

Central midfield is one of the key areas Arsenal are planning to look at for improvements, and a major new signing could well displace Xhaka in the starting lineup.

It would either be Xhaka or Partey dropping out to make space, and Partey seems less likely to make way given his longer contract and the fact it was Mikel Arteta who brought him in to begin with.

Ideally, Arsenal will be adding numbers as well as quality in midfield. If Xhaka goes, the club arguably need to make two good signings in the middle.

For that to happen, Roma would have to bid more than last summer and help Arsenal raise the funds.
