Media outlets in the Netherlands continue to link Arsenal with a potential move for Orkun Kokcu, despite little support for the claims in England.

Ziggo Sport Voetbal are the latest Dutch publication to suggest Arsenal are after Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kokcu, writing that the player is of “clear interest” to Arsenal.

There were some seemingly concrete links between Arsenal and Kokcu in 2020.

Kokcu had told the media he’d received two dissatisfactory contract offers from Feyenoord and wasn’t sure if they even wanted him to stay.

Goal’s Charles Watts confirmed the Gunners really liked the midfielder at the time. But not long after that, Feyenoord confirmed his contract extension to 2025.

Since then, almost all of the talk about the potential move has come from overseas.

Kokcu is hardly even mentioned in lists of potential summer targets in England, but in the country where he’s playing his football, the links to Arsenal keep coming back.

Whether it’s a case of the local outlets just trying to create a story or whether they know something we don’t, we’ll have to wait and see.

Kokcu is certainly having a strong season, scoring six goals and assisting seven from midfield. Those are his best goal contribution tallies since breaking into senior football, with much of the season still to play.

Only turning 21 in December, Kokcu still has most of his career ahead of him, and a move away from Feyenoord is likely to be in his future. It’s just not clear that Arsenal will go for him.
