Lino Sousa was Arsenal’s only January signing not to immediately go back out on loan, and the 17-year-old has started his spell with the club by playing for the u18s.

Though he played as a left-back for former club West Bromwich Albion, Sousa has featured in a more advanced role on the left in his three u18 appearances so far.

Mikel Arteta got a chance to have a close look at the new signing this week, as the player featured in first-team training.

Arsenal regularly give these opportunities to their youngsters, and Sousa wasn’t the only one to step up this week.

Arsenal Youth report that Arsenal u18 and England u18 international Josh Robinson was also involved in the session.

Sousa has had a mixed start to life with the Arsenal u18s so far, featuring in a big 4-0 win over Chelsea, a draw with Leicester City, and a heavy defeat to Crystal Palace. He won a penalty in the Leicester draw.

Having only turned 17 last month, it’s still very early days for Sousa’s Arsenal career. Spending time around the senior side is sure to do him good.
