Granit Xhaka is the latest Arsenal player to have January transfer rumours seemingly put to rest, with no talks on for his departure.

Fabrizio Romano reports that despite some talk in the Italian media over the last few days, Granit Xhaka won’t leave Arsenal in the final 24 hours of the January transfer window.

Jose Mourinho remains a big fan of the Arsenal man, after trying to bring him to AS Roma last summer, but there are no talks on as things stand.

It would obviously have been a bizarre move from Arsenal to sell Xhaka when they’re already so light in midfield.

With Ainsley Maitland-Niles already leaving for Roma, the Gunners only have Thomas Partey, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Mohamed Elneny, and Xhaka as deeper midfield options for the remainder of the season.

In a busy week, you probably need at least four midfielders available, and that’s before you even consider injuries and suspensions.

Arsenal are likely to have some busy weeks ahead, when the postponed Premier League fixtures get rescheduled in March and beyond.

So Arsenal have to hold onto Xhaka for the time being. A move in the summer doesn’t seem impossible, with Arteta seemingly looking at a revamp in the position. Now is just not the time.
