Eddie Nketiah is high on Eddie Howe’s list of priorities for the remainder of the January transfer window, according to a report.

The Guardian report that Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe admires Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah. The striker is high on his list and very much on Newcastle’s radar in the final days of the window.

For the time being, Nketiah is in Dubai with the Arsenal squad, but it certainly seems possible he won’t be for long.

The Telegraph reported on Friday that Newcastle are closing in on a deal for Nketiah, having been quietly working on the move for a while now.

Talks with Arsenal are progressing well, and Newcastle hope Nketiah will travel to complete his move this weekend.

Crystal Palace no longer appear to be a likely destination for Nketiah, having previously had a bid rejected by Arsenal. They’re now pushing to make Jean Philippe-Mateta’s loan move permanent.

Nketiah has scored five goals in 10 Arsenal appearances this season, all of which came in the League Cup.

The 22-year-old has only played a total of 51 minutes in the Premier League, so you can also see why he’s not jumping at the chance to commit his future to Arsenal.

Aston Villa and Borussia Monchengladbach have also been linked with a move in recent weeks, but Newcastle looks like Nketiah’s most likely destination right now.
