Cedric Soares is back in training after his recent injury, as Arsenal continue to loan out and sell their right-back options.

Arsenal have loaned one senior right-back option and two youth right-backs this window, on top of selling Calum Chambers to Aston Villa.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles may not have played much at right-back under Mikel Arteta, but his move to AS Roma certainly took away any lingering possibility he would.

Meanwhile, Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Ryan Alebiosu have joined Lincoln City and Crewe Alexandra in the lower leagues.

Arsenal still have two senior right-backs and at least three in the u23s, but the concern was around the injury status of the majority of that group.

Takehiro Tomiyasu had to pull out of international duty with Japan to focus on his injury recovery. Cedric Soares missed the last couple of matchday squads with a hip injury. Jordi Osei-Tutu was recalled from loan, but he’s also out at the moment.

Fortunately, Cedric has now returned to training, so there should be at least one player Arteta can turn to for the next match against Wolves. If Tomiyasu is back by then as well, even better.

Arteta does always have the backup option of using Ben White in the full-back position, as he did against Burnley. It’s just less than ideal to be shifting the centre-back out of his favoured position.
