James Benge wrote on Monday that Arsenal’s Brooke Norton-Cuffy was set to join Lincoln City on loan. Arsenal believe fighting for League One minutes is more valuable than Premier League 2 football right now, and Lincoln are short at the back.

Arsenal have now confirmed the move on their club website, on loan to the end of the season.

Arsenal already have a relationship with Lincoln City, having sent Tyreece John-Jules to the club in 2020.

The concept of Arsenal loaning players out is a sore topic for most of the media right now, with many complaining that the club are letting youngsters leave whilst postponing matches due to their thin squad.

Never mind that Arsenal have actually recalled more players (five) than they’ve loaned (three) at the time of writing.

But that argument isn’t relevant here, as Norton-Cuffy doesn’t count as one of Arsenal’s appropriately experienced players.

The 18-year-old would be making his first steps into senior football, and wouldn’t have counted towards Arsenal’s tally of available players with the current Premier League postponement rules.

So instead we can focus on the positives, with Norton-Cuffy rewarded for his good performances playing for the Arsenal u23s and u21s this season.

He’s helped the u21s into the EFL Trophy quarter-final and the u23s into fourth in the PL2 table.

A loan spell to get a first taste of the next level would be much deserved.
