Barcelona and Saint-Etienne are said to be set to fight it out for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s signature, even though the former side have others on their list and the latter can’t afford him.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s time at Arsenal seems to be done.

Stripped of the captaincy and binned from the squad almost a month ago, the 32-year-old is currently in quarantine after catching Covid in Dubai, while partying, when he was supposed to be on international duty preparing for the AFCON.

Barcelona have been linked with a move for Aubameyang on and off over the years and, with Sergio Augero retiring, they are said to be considering a move for Auba, Edinson Cavani, or Alexandre Lacazette.

The Manchester United man is said to be their preferred target and that’s something I’ve noticed recently – every time Aubameyang’s name is linked with a move to Barcelona, he only seems to be there to make up the numbers on the list.

He is never a ‘preferred option’.

As for Saint-Etienne, they wouldn’t be able to afford Aubameyang’s ridiculous wages and it’s hard to see him giving them up.

In addition to his wages being higher than normal, the French side are also in a bit of a pickle financially, anyway.

Quite what they’re doing being linked is anyone’s guess.
