Eddie Nketiah looks increasingly likely to stay at Arsenal in the January transfer window as they turn another bid down.
Sky Sports’ Michael Bridge reports Arsenal have turned down a second bid from Crystal Palace for Eddie Nketiah, with the club keen to keep the striker as it stands.
Palace have a long-term interest in Nketiah, but the Gunners aren’t budging.
Ryan Taylor of the Daily Express adds that whilst there’s still interest in Nketiah, Mikel Arteta is determined to keep him. As well as Palace having their offer rejected, nothing is advanced with Newcastle United at this stage.
That’s something of a turnaround after the last few days, when a move to Newcastle was starting to seem like a strong possibility.
The Guardian had reported that Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe very much admires Nketiah, and the striker is high on the club’s radar in the final days of the window.
Before that, The Telegraph claimed on Friday that Newcastle are closing in on a deal for Nketiah, having been quietly working on the move for a while now.
They wrote that talks with Arsenal are progressing well, and Newcastle hope Nketiah will travel to complete his move this weekend.
But Nketiah still appears to be in Dubai with the Arsenal squad, and these new reports suggest the Gunners are much less keen to let him go than we might’ve thought.
Nketiah has scored five goals in 10 Arsenal appearances this season, all of which came in the League Cup. The 22-year-old has only played a total of 51 minutes in the Premier League this campaign.
