Arsenal have two nominees for Premier League Player of the Month and one for Manager of the Month, after a strong December.
The Premier League announced their nominees for December Player and Manager of the Month, and Arsenal have participants in both shortlists.
Odegaard scored three and assisted three in six games, whilst creating more chances (20), playing more through balls (nine), and winning possession in the final third more times (nine) than any other player in the league.
The Norway international also created the joint-most big chances in the league in December, with four.
Martinelli also scored three goals, and only assisted one fewer than Odegaard with two. Martinelli may not match Odegaard’s numbers, but he brought his usual high-tempo football to help transform Arsenal’s play.
Odegaard wouldn’t have had his extra assist against Norwich City if not for Martinelli chasing back and winning the ball in the first place. He’s clearly another worthy contender for the award.
Martinelli and Odegaard join Joao Cancelo, James Maddison, Mason Mount, Heung-Min Son, and Raheem Sterling in the shortlist of seven.
Arsenal obviously started the month with a couple of narrow defeats, but they followed that up with four strong wins and some excellent football.
Guardiola is likely the favourite, though, having managed City to seven straight wins in December.
