Sky Sports report that Arsenal will consider offers for Pablo Mari and Calum Chambers in the winter window. Neither appear to be in Mikel Arteta’s long-term plans.

The Athletic confirm that clubs around Europe have been made aware of Mari’s availability, and teams in need of defensive reinforcement may try to take advantage of Chambers’ expiring contract (which is up this summer).

Brazilian reporter Raisa Simplicio writes that Mari may well leave Arsenal, but the player’s priority is to continue in Europe, rather than returning to Brazilian football.

That will dash Flamengo’s hopes of resigning the centre-back, despite the rumours that they would be willing to do so if possible.

It’s not exactly surprising that either player is on the way out. Both started the season in the Premier League lineup against Brentford, but they quickly dropped out of contention completely.

From September 19th to December 17th, neither of them even appeared in a single Premier League squad.

That changed in the middle of last month. Covid cases stretched Mikel Arteta’s options and Chambers made the bench against Leeds United before Mari was involved with the substitutes against Norwich City.

Still, neither player made it onto the pitch, even in those exceptional circumstances.

The question now is whether Arsenal draw any serious interest for the duo. In Chambers’ case, clubs may prefer to pick him up on a free transfer in six months. As for Mari, there just aren’t any serious links yet.
