Sidelined with an injury at the moment, Karl Hein was able to travel to Estonia for their annual football gala, where he was nominated for a couple of awards.

Following nominations from the Estonian Football Journalists’ Club and the Estonian Football Association, Hein made the top three for the Best Male Football Player of the Year. He eventually missed out on the award to Rauno Sappinen of local club FC Flora.

Hein had more luck in the Young Player of the Year bracket, winning a North London derby vote against Spurs’ Maksim Paskots to lift the award.

The goalkeeper also won the award in 2020, but he was unable to attend the event in person due to Covid-19 restrictions and the fact he had matches going on.

This year’s award is certainly well deserved for Hein. He was in goal as Estonia ended their 83-year wait to lift the Baltic Cup over the summer, and he’s made six senior appearances for his country in 2021.

Back with Arsenal, Hein had extended his contract and impressed in his appearances with the first-team in pre-season and the u23s during the regular campaign before his injury.

The goalkeeper even made the first-team bench on a couple of occasions, once in the Premier League against Brentford and once in the League Cup against AFC Wimbledon.
