Fabrizio Romano claims it’s now ‘confirmed’ that former Arsenal target Andre Onana will sign a contract with Inter Milan in January.

Fabrizio Romano has given his “here we go” confirmation to Andre Onana signing a pre-contract agreement with Inter Milan in January, ahead of a free transfer move in the summer.

Romano has ruled out Barcelona as an option, and he insists Onana’s move to Inter was never in doubt.

The same journalist claimed in November that Onana had a verbal agreement with Inter Milan. It seems they’re now ready to put pen to paper.

However, after Romano’s initial claim last month, the player himself seemed keen to deny all the rumours.

“I’ve wanted to talk about that for some time: I was in Salou [for individual training],” Onana said (via Sport Witness).

“There was an article about me every day. Then it was Arsenal, then it was Lyon, pfff… I was tired of it, the media thinks it should inform me about my own life, come on.

“Do I have an agreement with another club? I still have a contract with Ajax. It’s rubbish.”

Despite those comments, Romano seems certain now that Onana is set to join Inter Milan in January. Perhaps the goalkeeper was just playing it cool while his representatives sorted out the details.

Onana’s contract with Ajax expires in the summer, which is seemingly what made him so appealing to Arsenal in the first place.

That likely changed when Aaron Ramsdale proved such a success in his early months with the club.

In September, Onana told reporters that he didn’t have any agreement to join a new club, and that he had as many as 15 suitors to sign him next summer.

He even suggested it was possible he extends his deal with Ajax.

Onana has just finished serving a suspension after the banned substance, Furosemide, was found in his urine sample. He claimed he took it by accident after it was prescribed to his wife.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled no significant fault could be attributed to Onana, reducing the ban from 12 months to nine as a result. He’s available again now.

The 25-year-old has had an excellent record in goal for Ajax. He kept nine clean sheets in 20 Eredivisie matches before his ban last season, with an 80% save percentage.
