Though it hasn’t been the best week of results for Brentford, former Arsenal academy left-back Dominic Thompson has had a good few days on an individual note.

Thompson left Arsenal for Brentford in 2019, but it’s taken him a while to break into their team. Still just 21 years old, Thompson spent the second half of last season out on loan in League One with Swindon Town.

The youngster has been a regular inclusion in Brentford’s Premier League squads this campaign, but he didn’t make it onto the pitch until Boxing Day, when he earned a start away to Brighton.

After 66 minutes in that match, Thompson then kept his place in the team against Manchester City on Wednesday.

Brentford lost the two matches 2-0 and 1-0, but their fans voted Thompson their Man of the Match in the City clash.

Thompson never made a competitive appearance for Arsenal, but fans might remember his friendly debut for his assist to Gabriel Martinelli.

It was Martinelli’s first goal for the club against Colorado Rapids, so we have Thompson to thank for getting the young Brazilian off to a good start.

It’s always good to see another Arsenal youth product starting to find their way in senior football, so congratulations to Thompson on his appearances this week.
