Mikel Arteta has given a positive team news update ahead of Arsenal’s Boxing Day clash with Norwich City this weekend.

After Arsenal’s comfortable victory over Sunderland in the League Cup quarter-final on Tuesday night, Mikel Arteta has confirmed that there are no new injuries in the squad from the game.

“We didn’t pick up any injuries yesterday, obviously before the game, we lost Calum with Covid,” Arteta said. “We are tested every day and we will see how it goes, touch wood.”

Chambers isn’t the only Covid absentee right now, with Albert Sambi Lokonga and Pablo Mari already out for the same reason. Arsenal also confirmed the reason for Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ recent absence is a non-Covid illness.

On top of that, Arsenal still have Sead Kolasinac out with his ankle injury. The latest on Kolasinac was that he was running outside and aiming to return to full training in January.

The one player we haven’t had an update on is Takehiro Tomiyasu. The right-back came off early against Leeds United, and Arteta confirmed it was a muscular problem at the time.

“It was more of a muscular injury,” Arteta said. “He’s got a big load on him because he’s played every single minute since he’s joined us and even this week he’s been struggling a little bit.

“We decided to take him off, he wasn’t 100 percent confident to continue in the game, and hopefully he’s not injured.”

Unfortunately, that’s all we’ve heard about it at this stage. In a sense, that’s probably good news, as we usually find out if a player’s scans show a serious injury. But it makes it difficult to know whether he’ll be available this weekend.
