Alexandre Lacazette has reportedly turned down a contract offer from Arsenal because he wants a longer deal than the one-year deal that was presented.

Alexandre Lacazette, as we all know, is out of contract in the summer.

There has been very little talk of the club trying to get him to stay, but over the holiday period it was reported by L’Equipe that the frontman was offered a one-year deal which did not appeal to him.

That’s not entirely surprising.

Lacazette will be looking for security and a one-year deal certainly doesn’t offer that.

It’s understandable why Arsenal would offer him a deal of that length – they eventually want him to leave so they can replace him with a newer model – but that in itself is likely to go against the club.

Why would Lacazette sign on just to help Arsenal out? He has his own future to look after and, he will be 31 before the end of the season.

There will not be many more multi-year deals coming his way from the top leagues.
