Hector Bellerin missed Real Betis’ defeat to Atletico Madrid on Sunday, with Manuel Pellegrini explaining why in his press conference.

Arsenal loanee Hector Bellerin wasn’t named in the squad to face Atletico Madrid on Sunday, but fortunately it has nothing to do with form or injury. Manuel Pellegrini explained that the full-back is simply unwell at the moment.

“Last night, he had stomach problems and he will not be on the squad list” Pellegrini said.

El Desmarque add that Bellerin wasn’t involved in training on Saturday, arriving at the club’s training centre for a conversation before leaving early. Now we know why.

Martin Montoya took Bellerin’s place at right-back on Sunday, but Atletico Madrid ran away comfortable 3-0 winners. At least that means the Arsenal man can feel fairly confident of reclaiming his place when he’s well again.

Betis have a Europa League fixture away to Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday, so we’ll see if Bellerin is available in time for that.

The 26-year-old is yet to start a Europa League game, with all his starts so far this season coming in La Liga. But he’s been a regular starter in the league, making six appearances in his first month and a half with Betis.
