The FA Cup first round kicked off over the weekend, with three of Arsenal’s loanee clubs in action.

First, Doncaster Rovers travelled away to Scunthorpe United, with Arsenal midfielder Matt Smith getting a start. Smith completed the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 win for his side.

Then, Miguel Azeez finally returned to the Portsmouth starting lineup as they took on Harrow Borough. He didn’t complete the full match, coming off on the hour mark, but it was another 1-0 win to progress to the next round.

Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley recently insisted Arsenal are happy with how they’re dealing with Azeez on loan so far, and the hope is that this FA Cup start is a sign of things to come.

Carlisle United also had a match against Horsham, but Arsenal’s Jonathan Dinzeyi only made the bench. Still, he will have been pleased to see his side progressing with a 2-0 victory.

The draw for the FA Cup second round will take place on Monday, 8th November, and Arsenal’s three lower-league loanees remain in the competition.

The Championship loanees (Tyreece John-Jules, Daniel Ballard, and Jordi Osei-Tutu) won’t enter the competition until the Premier League sides do, in the third round in January. So for now, Smith, Azeez, and Dinzeyi are the only players involved in the draw.
