Konstantinos Mavropanos has picked up another injury on loan, tearing a muscle fibre before VfB Stuttgart’s weekend defeat to FC Augsburg.

Those following the loan spell of Arsenal centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos will have noticed he was completely absent from Sunday’s matchday squad, having been substituted early in the DFB Pokal game in midweek.

Stuttgarter Nachrichten report that Mavropanos was diagnosed with a torn muscle fibre in the pelvic area ahead of the Augsburg game. There’s no word yet on how long he’ll be out, but he’s expected to miss their next game on Saturday.

At this point, this is par for the course for Mavropanos. He’s had injuries around the groin or pelvis area in every season since he joined Arsenal.

The defender had made a busy start to the season with Stuttgart, making 11 appearances and playing over 900 minutes. So the latest injury is certainly a disappointment.

In Mavropanos’ absence, Stuttgart lost 4-1 to drop to just a single point above the relegation play-off place. That’s relevant to Arsenal, as Stuttgart’s option to buy Mavropanos only turns into an obligation to buy if the German side avoid relegation.

Given Mavropanos has four goals and a starting spot with his loan side his season, they’ll want him back in action as soon as possible to try and get their campaign back on track.
