The Arsenal academy have been involved in a few impressive comebacks lately, and they pulled off another to draw with West Ham United on Saturday.

Despite naming a relatively strong u18 side against West Ham, with in-form striker Khayon Edwards up front and Marcelo Flores supporting him after his impressive work with the Mexico u20s over the international break, the team didn’t start well.

West Ham took a 2-0 lead around the half-hour mark, with Divin Mubama scoring in the 28th minute and Oliver Scarles doubling their lead in the 33rd.

In fairness, those were West Ham’s only two shots on target in the first half, but Arsenal didn’t have too many themselves, and they were very much chasing the game after the break.

With just over 15 minutes left, Charles Sagoe Jr got Arsenal back into the game with a 20-yard strike. The youngster had been denied a penalty minutes earlier, but he made no mistake at the second time of asking.

Billy Vigar came on after the goal, his first appearance of the season, and he ended up getting his team’s vital equaliser.

With the game in stoppage time, Vigar headed home from an Edwards cross for 2-2.

Edwards had a shot cleared off the line earlier in the game, but he at least had an assist to show for his efforts as his strong form continues.

Though Dan Micciche’s side missed out on the three points, they avoided what looked like an almost certain defeat to stay four points clear of West Ham.

They also avoided falling even further behind Chelsea and Southampton, four points ahead at the top of the table.
