Khayon Edwards added to his tally as the Arsenal u18s top scorer this season with another goal in a win over Reading on Saturday.

The Arsenal u18s were in a bit of a rut going into the weekend, having lost a couple of games in a row in the u18 Premier League South. It was a rather surprising dip in form, with Dan Micciche’s side unbeaten in all competitions before those two games.

It was obviously important for the side to get back to winning ways on Saturday against Reading, and it’s no surprise who supplied their opening goal.

Khayon Edwards scored in the 35th minute to make it 12 goals for his season so far, assisted by James Sweet, his fifth assist of the campaign.

Edwards is now just one goal off the u18 Premier League’s top scorer in 2021/22, whilst Sweet is one assist off the league’s top assister, so those two are certainly putting together impressive tallies this season.

Arsenal continued to dominate the chances for much of the rest of the match, taking 14 shots to Reading’s five, but there were no further goals. Remy Mitchell kept the young Gunners first clean sheet in four games, helping them to the three points.

The top of the u18 Premier League South table is particularly compact. Arsenal are currently in fifth place, but there’s just a two-point gap between Crystal Palace in sixth and Chelsea in first.

Arsenal are two points and eight goal difference off top spot, so it’s still very much within reach with a few good results.
