Arsenal made contact with Youssef En-Nesyri to try and sign him this summer, but the player didn’t want to leave Sevilla.

ABC Sevilla report that the agent of Sevilla forward Youssef En-Nesyri received enquiries from six clubs over the summer, but the player rejected all of them.

One of the offers was reportedly from Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta encouraging Vinai Venkatesham to make contact. But when he did, En-Nesyri simply reiterated that he wasn’t planning to leave the La Liga club this summer.

The striker has three goals in nine games this season, though the stats look more impressive when you consider he’s providing a goal or assist every 107 minutes on the pitch. He scored 24 goals last campaign.

Still just 24, En-Nesyri has plenty of time to make his next move, and it’s understandable if he wanted to stick with Sevilla while they were playing Champions League football.

Unless they extend Alexandre Lacazette’s contract at the last minute, Arsenal are expected to be in the market for a new striker this summer. Perhaps En-Nesyri could be on their shortlist again, but for now he’s clearly planning to stick around in Spain.
