After Arsenal returned to winning ways this weekend, various Teams of the Week highlighted different players’ performances against Newcastle United.

In the Premier League Team of the Week by Alan Shearer, Aaron Ramsdale and Bukayo Saka both made it in.

The BBC’s Garth Crooks also selected Saka, but not Ramsdale, and he included Nuno Tavares.

As for WhoScored, they gave a spot to Takehiro Tomiyasu and Saka, with ratings of 8.5 and 7.9 respectively.

In Crooks’ explanation of his choices, he wrote of Saka that the youngster “looked like a player who meant business”, and added that he “scored a fabulous goal, matched by a super display of commitment and effort”.

On Tavares, Crooks wrote that “this kid had passed me by, but he’s certainly on my radar now…the assist for Bukayo Saka’s goal was quite brilliant”.

Ramsdale’s five saves will have seen him into Shearer’s side, especially the diving stop from Jonjo Shelvey.

As for Tomiyasu, it’s somewhat surprising he didn’t make it into more of the teams, based on his stats on the day.

The Japanese international made one clearance, one interception, and three tackles on the defensive end, winning seven of his 10 duels. He also completed 87.5% of his passes, including six of his six long balls.

Most importantly, in a match where Arsenal spent most of the game trying to break Newcastle down, he created three chances. That included one big chance, providing an assist for Gabriel Martinelli’s goal.
