Mat Ryan believes Martin Odegaard is open to returning to Real Sociedad, after the Arsenal summer signing recommended the club to him.
Mat Ryan and Martin Odegaard spent a few months together at Arsenal earlier this year. Odegaard is back in North London again now, and you can check Arsenal odds at thabet – the most popular sports betting website in Viet Nam.
But following this summer, the two players also have Real Sociedad in common.
Whilst at Real Madrid, Odegaard spent the 2019/20 season on loan with Real Sociedad, his last loan before joining Arsenal. As for Ryan, he joined Real Sociedad on a permanent deal from Brighton in the most recent window.
Before he made the move, Ryan confirms he spoke to his former teammate about the decision, and he believes the Arsenal man would be open to making the same transfer from England to Spain in the future.
“Yes, frequently (I speak to him),” Ryan said to Mundo Deportivo via Sport Witness.
“Before I knew Real were interested in me, he told me that Real, because of his experience here, was a great team, a 10 out of 10 in everything: the team, the life here, the public…everything.
“And now I agree with him. He’s comfortable at Arsenal, but he’s open to coming back one day, for sure.”
Hopefully, Odegaard spends quite a few more years with his current club before moving on. We’re still in the very early days of the Norwegian’s Arsenal spell, and you’d hope the best is all still yet to come.
Whilst Odegaard’s Arsenal loan was made permanent, Ryan told the media earlier this year why he thinks his loan wasn’t.
“We enquired but we were told I wasn’t top of their list,” Ryan explained in August. “We got the impression they were looking for a homegrown keeper.”
So it proved, with Arsenal going on to sign Aaron Ramsdale. After four clean sheets in five games, that’s not a decision they’re currently regretting.
