Mat Ryan won the Man of the Match award for Real Sociedad in midweek as they temporarily took top spot in La Liga.

Real Sociedad faced off with Celta Vigo on Thursday night, and they ended up coming away with a 2-0 win thanks largely to the presence of former Arsenal goalkeeper Mat Ryan.
Due to an injury problem soon after his move, followed by a bit of a fight to earn a starting role, Ryan was only making his second start of the campaign on Thursday. But he made it count, winning the Man of the Match award with six saves and a clean sheet.
The goalkeeper had to make a couple of double saves to maintain that clean sheet, and you can watch the highlights from the match below.

Notably, the victory took Ryan’s new side to the top of La Liga, with the major caveat that both Real Madrid and Sevilla had a game in hand and superior goal difference from just three points behind.
Still, even taking top spot temporarily after 11 games is impressive for Real Sociedad, and it looks like Ryan has chosen his next club well. Now he just needs to hope he’s done enough to convince head coach Imanol Alguacil to keep picking him.
