Going into the ninth game of his loan spell at Ross County on Wednesday, Harry Clarke was in strong form. He featured in the Scottish Premiership Team of the Week over the weekend, having scored an excellent goal against Livingston.

That was the defender’s third goal contribution in eight games, but his team were yet to earn a single win from those matches and sat dead last in the table.

Once again, Clarke was on hand to help them out on Wednesday. Facing Dundee FC, the Arsenal youngster scored the opening goal in the 18th minute.

Clarke picked up the ball on the right-hand side, raced around a defender, before curling a shot into the far post with the outside of his right foot.

For once, Ross County didn’t immediately give up their lead, and the floodgates appeared to open. They were 4-0 up by half time, and Clarke assisted their fifth after the break.

Hugging the right touchline again, Clarke played a one-two to get to the edge of the box before playing a squad pass to Regan Charles-Cook to score.

You can watch Clarke’s goal and assist here from 0:50 and 4:32.

The 5-0 win was Ross County’s biggest ever top-flight victory. It wasn’t enough to drag them off the bottom of the league, but it puts them one point behind Dundee with a significant goal difference advantage.

As for Clarke, he now has four goal contributions in his last three games. Not bad for someone starting at right-back!
