Ahead of Friday’s match, Bukayo Saka finally returned to training with Arsenal on Thursday. The 20-year-old had missed a session on Wednesday after picking up an injury in Monday’s game, but he was at least fit enough to feature on Thursday.

Mikel Arteta had said in his press conference that they planned to assess Saka when he joined training, so the fact the winger was involved doesn’t completely guarantee his availability for selection against Aston Villa. It depends on the result of that assessment.

Saka went down under an unfair challenge in the first half of Arsenal’s fixture against Crystal Palace on Monday, with James McArthur only receiving a yellow when many felt he deserved a red.

The winger ended up having to come off at half-time, with Arteta confirming he wasn’t able to continue.

Saka has already made 10 appearances for Arsenal this season, as well as playing four times for England over the international breaks. He’s clearly a key member of the squad for club and country, so we’re all wishing him well.
