Arsenal are interested in signing Denis Zakaria of Borussia Monchengladbach on a free transfer in the summer, according to a report.

Christian Falk reports that Arsenal are interested in Denis Zakaria ahead of the summer, as the player runs down his contract with Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach.

The same journalists adds on the BILD website (via Sport Witness) that Arsenal are ‘hot’ for Zakaria, they’ve shown an interest in the past, and the player wants a move to the Premier League.

Given the 24-year-old is playing in a foreign league with a deal that comes to an end next summer, Arsenal will be free to agree a pre-contract deal with him in January. So if they really are interested, they should make their move in a couple of months.

Zakaria is in good form in his first eight games this season, already adding a couple of goals and an assist to the qualities he usually brings in defensive midfield. The Gladbach man is a strong passer and dribbler as well as a ball winner.

Arsenal were linked with Zakaria over the summer, and Gladbach were open to selling, but it was never likely to go through unless Granit Xhaka left – which he didn’t, in the end. Signing him on a free transfer does seem more realistic.
